Fashion in Thailand

Now a day, it so difference fashion style in Thailand by difference region but most models are based in Bangkok with Bangkok being promoted as Fashion City many celebrities want to get in on the fashion craze and pose in the latest designer wear. Nowadays, Thai teenagers even working people like to follow fashion by looking at famous celebrities and their idols. Most of them always update new fashion from Europe, Asia and Thailand. They want to know which items is so hot, which items is out of trend because they don’t want to out of trend.

For the analyse of people in Thailand, I have been separated into three parts which include age, income and needs. First group is the teenager, age between 15-22 years old. Most of them are student so most of them like to shop at Siam square, Siam paragon, JJ market and central because these places are the main shopping area in Bangkok, Thailand. It’s depending on their family income because they are students so they can’t work and get money by themselves. They have their own lifestyle and variety of fashion but some of them like to follow fashion by looking at their idols or celebrities. Nowadays, Many of Thai teens are now crazy about their Korean or Japanese idols they try to dress like them. Second group is people age between 23-30 years old. Most of them in this group are working but some of them still studying so their incomes are different from the first group because some of them can work and get money by themselves. Last group is people age between 30 or above. All of them are working so their income higher than other group. The shopping place also different because with their age and their lifestyle. Most of them like to shop at Paragon, Siam Center, Central world and Gaysorn. They have their own lifestyle and don’t follow the celebrities or idols.

Siam aquare          Central World                  Paragon                JJ Market

These are the main shopping area in Bangkok, Thailand. Many people go for shopping every day. For choose place to go shopping it’s depending on their incom and their lifestyle. For Siam square, most of them are teenagers beacause there is a range of shops and services, including tutor schools, restaurants, cafe, designer clothing boutiques etc. Central world is a shopping plaza and complex in Bangkok. Almost every shop in central world are selling brand name so price range is different from Siam square. For Paragon, this is a luxury shopping mall in front of Siam square. All of their shop sell luxury goods and people who go shopping their must have high income and good lifestyle. For the last place, JJ market. This place is the largest market in Thailand. They sell a wide variety of products including household items, clothing, Thai handicrafts, religious artifacts, collectibles, foods, and live animals. They don’t sell brandname and the price is very cheap for every products. Most of them that go shopping there are teenager or foreigner.

THAI DESIGNER

Milin Yuvacharuskul, a  Bangkok-based designer. She graduated from London’s Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design with a B.A. in Fashion Design with Printed Textiles, later working in the U.K. as a stylist, designer, and columnist for clients ranging from magazines to commercials to films. After a couple of years of working in fashion, Milin knew that it was time to start her own brand. Realising that she didn’t know anything about marketing, she decided to take a course in New York, and being her diligent self, she continued to immerse herself in the fashion environment by interning in world renowned, high fashion designer house, Jill Stuart. For a year in New York, Milin worked in Jill Stuart in the day and took a course in Fashion Institute of Technology during the night. ‘Being in New York has definitely helped me develop my brand, as Milin brand is very inspired by New York city style’, Milin says. In late 2008, Milin moved back to Thailand to start her own eponymous label. Milin gathered a team to work with her on the new brand. Her team consists of a design assistant (who is also her good friend) who knows a lot about the production in Thailand and a graphic designer/pattern sewer.

The brand Milin was launched in August 2009. Self-named brand Milin came into the Thai fashion market with a big bang and her designs are now being sold in Bangkok and some other parts of South-East Asia. For a brand that only started a year and a half ago, Milin has achieved what many designers dream to do. We take a journey towards success. Her cocktail dresses, which are what her brand is renowned for, allows one to switch from day-time wear to night-time wear with convenience, and most importantly, style. Her clothes move along with the rhythm of city life as she says, ‘one can go to work in these dresses with a jacket on, and then out at night for cocktails’. She has, indeed, produced something very ready to wear, whatever the occasion.

Milin’s signature style

Her collections are based on three keywords: elegance, sensuality and rebellion. The designs are meant for the modern Thai woman, and are a combination of intriguing cultures. Their cloths can be use for day-to-night that look chic and sexy in the same time. Milin’s style is simple yet wonderful and ready-to-wear. It’s comfortable because of their material and, very well designed and cut, which drapes well. It is also affordable at the same time. I choose her because I like her designs, the combination and the inpiration. I think, milin brand is very suit for modern women and match with the today world.

Her first collection

“Let Them Eat Cake”, the first collection by Milin, she has inspiration from rock-infused period drama Marie Antoinette, the doomed French queen. Milin transform the elements embodied Marie Antoinette’s shade of personalities, beautiful, cool, innocent and yet sexy and complex in to this collection and colour pallas that reflex in the forms of clothes in this collection.

It has been only a year and a half since the Milin brand launched its first collection, but Milin has since become a very popular and highly appraised designer in Bangkok. Spotted by several fashion entrepreneurs, Milin’s clothes are also sold in selective shops in Singapore and Hong Kong as a result. ‘Elegant, sensual and rebellious’, Milin has definitely targeted a look and emotion which most women aspire to.

Milin’s latest Fall/Winter collection

The name of this collection is Round About. This collection were inspired by the elegance and grace of gymnastics, evident from the tight, skin-fit cutting style. These unique designs are made using a good mix of fine fabrics that accentuate the sportswear-style decorative details without compromising on comfort. You can find Milin at Siam Paragon Department Store and The Emporium Shopping Complex, www.milin.com.

Marc Jacobs

MARC JACOBS is the American fashion designer. He is the head designer for Marc Jacobs, as well as Marc by Marc Jacobs, a diffusion line and he has been the creative director of the French design house Louis vuitton since 1997. He was born in New York city in 1963, he spent much of his early life moving from place to place following the death of his father and the three subsequent marriages of his mother. As a teenager he lived with his paternal grandmother, whom he has credited as being one of his greatest influences. “I always say I lived my life with my grandmother,” Jacobs told New York Magazine in 2005. “She was emotionally stable, and she was very encouraging to me”. After graduated from the High School of Art and Design in 1981, he studied at the world-famous Parsons school of design. In his final year he was awarded three of the schools highest honours – Design Student of the Year.At his graduate show, the sweaters attracted much attention – including that of Barbara Weiser, owner of New York’s Charivari boutique, who subsequently placed an order for them to be professionally produced and sold in her boutique under the label Marc Jacobs for Marc and Barbara. He also caught the eye of Robert Duffy a then-executive at Reuben Thomas Inc. Duffy enlisted Jacobs to design for the company’s subsidiary label, Sketchbook. The sweaters were photographed all over. That was the beginning of his career. In the spring of 2001, Jacobs introduced his secondary line, Marc by Marc Jacobs. He was working for a Seventh Avenue company and convinced them to hire me straight out of school,” Jacobs told Metro-source in 2002.

In June 2011, he was awarded the CFDA’s prestigious Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement prize. As of 2011 the CFDA had crowned Jacobs Womenswear Designer of the Year three times, Accessory Designer of the year four times and Menswear designer of the Year once.

The year 2012 marked 15 years as creative director at Louis Vuitton for Jacobs. It was announced that an exhibition of his work for the French fashion house would be staged at Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris from March 2012 until September 2012.

Menswear Fall 2012/13

It is clear that for the upcoming Fall/Winter 2012 Collection, Marc Jacobs has gotten inspiration from the contemporary culture of street, while fusing quirky and preppy elements that are trademark of the brand. You see mod-influence in the slim-cut pants, blazers and skinny ties that were very popular with the punk music culture as well. Additionally, Marc Jacobs pairs sneakers with a suit and a leather jacket with smart pants, proving that meshing fashion in one outfit is possible.

This season he’s got a real verve for life – and he’s revisiting his skater days. It was bound to happen sooner or later. The collection continues the collaboration with New York street artist Bast and this is now the third season that he has brought his vibrant aesthetic to the brand – this time round inspired by paisley and supermarket posters.

And for those really into their skating, Bast has included a limited edition skate deck into the mix too. But for those who’d rather keep their fashion feet on the ground, they’ll be better off with just the bright shirting and wool suiting with their simple proportions and easy fits.

80’s

7 Mar

1980s fashion history is memorable and quite distinctive. A variety of fashion looks ran parallel to each other in the 1980s. Women of this era began to feel they that really could at last choose from one of the many contrasting looks available. The fashion look that was the most powerful over the decade was the wide shoulder.   Fashion history reveals that the 80s fashion look was a tailored look. It was hard to go anywhere without at least a jacket, but preferably a complete suit. This was influenced by several movements including media influence on 1980s fashion through the popularity of TV dramas like ‘Dynasty’ and ‘Dallas’. Costume dramas brought fashion into real everyday eighties life.

Corporate business suit dressing, Margaret Thatcher in tailored evening suits, Yuppies and the copying of styles worn by  Diana princess of Wales, all contributed to stamping the period with a style that now seems to shriek vulgarity quite simply because Laver’s law is operating.

Power dressing,  New Romantics, stretch dressing and sportswear all lent a significant feeling that a woman could be anybody she chose to be.

These four looks are influence in the fashion and costume history of the 1980s.

Influence of Television Soap Series ‘Dynasty’ and ‘Dallas’

‘Dynasty’ the 1980s television fantasy soap series promoted fashions which enlarged the shoulder. One of the main characters was played by the naturally broad shouldered film star Linda Evans.

The fashion icon in 80’s

Princess Diana

As the 1980s progressed she gained confidence in her own fashion style and became more and more elegant as she began to understand what suited her.  Diana became an icon in fashion history.

Diana started to wear clothes by international designers of her own choice including Versace, Christian Lacroix, Ungaro and Chanel. Within 5 years of her engagement she had developed the Dallas factor with big hair, big shoulder pads and big name glitzy outfits. By the time of Diana’s death in 1997 she was a world renowned fashion icon with her place ensured in fashion history.

Madonna

The pop icon was discovered and elevated to her most popular days in the 1980’s.  Her style was the most copied and sought after look. After all, Madonna was omnipresent in 80s culture, appearing on TV in many music videos, on the big screen in movies, on cassettes in every home and car, and in concert.  One was her most iconic looks from the 80s was the wavy hair with highlights. She started the layered look, with shirts and coats and more shirts. A lace shirt was often worn over another shirt. Or a sweatshirt with an oversized neck or cut off sleeves was worn over a smaller shirt or bra.

 Fashion in 1950s

In 1947 Christian Dior presented a fashion look with a fitted jacket with a nipped in waist and full calf length skirt.  It was a dramatic change from wartime austerity styles.   After the rationing of fabric during the Second World War, Dior’s lavish use of material was a bold and shocking stroke.   His style used yards and yards of fabric.   Approximately 10 yards was used for early styles.   Later Dior used up to 80 yards for newer refinements that eliminated bulk at the waist. The New Look and new approach to fashion was a major post war turning point in Fashion History.

Dior’s New Look of 1947 and the design called Bar.

Another trend in the 1950’s was the “trapeze dress: a swinging dress almost triangular in shape and designed to be worn with low shoes and bouffant hairstyles.” The trapeze dress was later modified into a shorter baby doll tent style dress, which was popular in the next decade. Perhaps one of the most classic fashion garments from the 1950’s was Christian Dior’s H-line of 1954, which consisted of a slender tunic-style suit with a slim skirt.

His other popular fashions during this period were his A and Y lines. Dior has long been a dominant force in the fashion world, especially in the 1950’s. His creative and usually voluminous garments gave women a more feminine touch. Another designer, Hubert Givenchy created a Parisian style dress in 1957 which he called the Sack. The Sack began the trend of straighter-waist dresses. Initially, it developed into the “fitted darted sheath dress and later into the loose straight short shift dress.”

10 Fashion Trends in 1950’s

The 10 fashion trends in 1950’s are not only fascination; they have also inspired many contemporary fashion designers who create retro pieces. Read on to learn more about the most prominent fashion trends in 1950s and draw ideas on how to revamp your wardrobe and outfits!

  1. Chemise. A chemise is a loose and delicate sleeveless dress with spaghetti straps. These dresses are extremely feminine, and they are also very comfortable as women can adjust the waist according to their body shapes. It was one of the most popular fashion trends in 1950s when Coco Chanel introduced the idea to the public.
  2. Velvet top. Women in the 1950s cherished comfort, but at the same time, they also wanted to show off the lushness of their femininity. As such, velvet tops became one of the most well-recognized fashion trends in the 1950s.
  3. Sleeveless dress. You may be surprised by the fact that women in the 1950s wore sleeveless dresses all four seasons in the year. They doted on this fashion item for its convenience and comfort. Sleeveless dresses were also popular for more formal occasions.
  4. Stole. One of the famous fashion trends in 1950’s was the stole. Women would often wear a long matching fabric and have that delicately drape over their bare shoulders while they wear an intricate dinner dress.
  5. Patent leather. Patent leather is not only stylish now, but it was also one of the biggest fashion trends in the 1950s. Like today, it was used to make pumps, handbags and accessories.
  6. Leotard. Women in the 1950s loved wearing leotards, and would pair them with full skirts that sure captured a lot of attention.
  7. Form-fitting pants and skirts. It is not surprising that fitted pants and tight skirts were one of the biggest fashion trends in 1950s; in fact, that was quite like our current obsession with leggings, and even more so, jeggins (leggings that imitate jeans). Usually, women would wear an over-sized top or sweater with the fitted bottom.
  8. Leather jacket. For men in the 1950s, leather jackets were a must if they wanted to attract the opposite sex. To create a rebellious look, they would pop up the collar of the jacket.
  9. Strapless evening gown. No one will be surprised to see strapless dresses nowadays. In fact, this trend began to develop in the 1950s and have become popular ever since.
  10. Poodle skirt. Women in the 1950s often wore a full skirt with a poodle silhouette printed on it. These skirts usually came in colors such as neon pink and bright red.

In the 1950s, pants became very narrow, and were worn ankle-length. Pants cropped to mid-calf were houseboy pants; shorter pants, to below the knee, were called pedal-pushers.

Until the 1950’s, the term “teenagers” was not commonly used, and certainly not a targeted market group. But with a new range of influences, including film, television, rock music, and magazines, teenagers began to be respected and acknowledged in the community. Often nicknamed the “Space Age”, the 1950’s was an important time in history for science and development as well. So many aspects of life changed during this period, perhaps partially attributed to the recent end of World War II.

Regardless of the world’s issues, the top fashions that drove the industry were more influenced by those who were idolized by the consumers: celebrities. Some of the most popular celebrities in the 1950’s include Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Ricky Nelson, and of course, Elvis Presley. Marilyn Monroe’s sexy yet simple style was a widely imitated across America, by women of all shapes and sizes. Elvis Presley was another huge influence in the 1950’s; not only was he adored by millions of girls, but he was also an inspiration for men. In a time where men only wore traditional attire, Elvis tore down all barriers which confined men to navy suits and ties.

Icons of this period

Marilyn Monroe

She was an American actress, singer, model and showgirl who became a major sex symbol, starring in a number of commercially successful motion pictures during the 1950s.

She posed nude for the now famous calendar shot which was later to appear in the first issue of Playboy magazine in 1953

Audrey Hepburn

She was a British actress and humanitarian. Although modest about her acting ability, Hepburn remains one of the world’s most famous actresses of all time, remembered as a film and fashion icon of the twentieth century.

Hepburn was first dressed by Givency in the film Sabrina (1954)

Hepburn in Breakfast at tiffany’s (1961), wearing the iconic little black dress by Givenchy

Elvis Presley

He was one of the most popular American singers of the 20th century. A cultural icon, he is widely known by the single name Elvis. He is often referred to as the “King of Rock and Roll” or simply “the King“.
